Day 1: Shree Krishna temple, Mary’s Church, beach

Start your day early and visit the famous Shree Krishna temple located 14 kilometers from the city. One of the popular temples of India, it is built in typical Kerala style architecture. The temple is particularly famous throughout the state of Kerala for Palpayasam (a milk porridge of exceptional sweetness), which is offered to the deity. After offering your prayers, head out to the famous churches around Alleppey. St. Mary’s Church is located at a distance of 15 kilometers from the town of Alappuzha. Built 1870, it is one of the oldest churches in Kerala and believed to be one of the seven churches historically established by St. Thomas. Located near this church is the St. Thomas Statuary, where wooden statues of Christ are created for export. Edathua Church is at a distance of 28 kilometers from the city. Known for being especially good at healing mental disorders and other ailments, thus, attracting a number of pilgrims from all over South India, seeking the blessing of St. George. Take a break and head for lunch at the town’s famous restaurants like Kream Korner, Royal Park Hotel, Chakara Restaurant and Harbour Restaurant for delicious meals. In the evening, go to the beach for experiencing the picturesque views of the sunset, the golden sands beneath your feet, the majestic Arabian Sea in front of you and the cool breeze which together makes for an amazing experience. You can spend your night at a houseboat for a unique experience.

Day 2: Nagaraja Temple, Krishnapuram Palace, Pandava Rock, Karumadi

Leave early morning for the Nagaraja Temple, located around 32 kilometers from the city. Dedicated to Lord Nagaraja, this is an unusual serpent shrine that is under the patronage of a Brahman family, headed by a priestess. The temple attracts numerous devotees every year and the 'Sarpakalam Pattu' ritual is conducted once every month. Once you come back to Alleppey, visit the Krishnapuram Palace. Famous for its mural paintings and architecture, one of the major attraction of this palace is the painting named the “Gajendra Moksham” which is 154 sq. feet in size and is said to be one of the largest archaeological paintings to have been discovered in Kerala. There is an in-house museum which houses bronzes, stone, wood sculptures, antique sculptures, paintings, coins, megalithic remains and copies of mural paintings. Have a picnic lunch at the Pandava Rock. To reach this place you will have to climb a little, but don’t worry as it is not a high climb. On your way up you can enjoy panoramic views from several vantage points, including the views of adjoining forests, hills, and the Kallada Dam. In the evening you can head to Karumadi, just 3 kilometers away from Alleppey. Karumadi is known for the large black granite statue of Lord Buddha which is popularly known as Karumadi Kuttan. According to historians, the statue was built around 9th to the 10th century when Buddhism was at its peak.

You can either go for backwater cruises in a houseboat, Canoe, Motorboat or ferries, or you can go to places to explore around Alleppey including Kumarakom (38 kilometers away), Mararikulam (15 kilometers away) and Cochin (54 kilometers away).
